Home Decorating Goals for 2011

Last night I was reading a post on The Nesting Place about setting goals for your home for 2011. I thought "Oh, how appropriate!!" Since I've just started this new blog, I thought it would be great to jot down all the things I hope to accomplish with our home this year! And the list is long!!!

2011 Home Goals

1. Master Bath/Bedroom redo. The master bath looks like it stepped outta the late eighties! I've already updated with paint, but the gold tone brass fixtures and track lighting have to go! Our bedroom needs new paint and just needs to be made our own. It's the room where everything lands and I really haven't taken the time to make it the retreat it needs to be!

The jacuzzi tub with the brass fixtures and the stained glass window!
I love the design of it, the colors are just dated...why I picked the green color in paint.
(it's Halcyon Green from Sherwin Williams)

the awesome track lighting!

The vanity area...like the paint job? There was this huge beveled wall to wall mirror up before. I wish I could show it to you, but it fell off the wall last week! That is what prompted this room redo! If you look close you can see the original mauve wallpaper! GAK!!

2. Paint my kitchen walls. They are currently a brick red. I like the color, but it was already here when we moved in. It also happens to be the color of our master bedroom in our previous house. I'm OVER it!! We have dark granite countertops and black appliances and I'm really looking to brighten up this room! (Oh and I want to paint my breakfast table TEAL, but I think that deserves its own post!)

Our breakfast table which will one day be TEAL!
I'm going to pull the color from the parsons chair on the end.
You can see the red walls!

White cabinets + dark granite + black appliances

+ hardwood floors + red walls = too dark for me!

3. All of our trim is white however, I have this thing...I want to paint all of my interior doors black! I found this idea over at Addicted 2 Decorating. Here is a visual:

4. Have the Living Room chairs recovered. We have two chairs and an ottoman that I love the design of, the fabric just really doesn't go with the scheme of our new house and one of them has become our family cat's scratching post! :(

5. The painting above our mantle must be changed. My husband gave to me this BEAUTIFUL huge oil painting of the backs of two little boys walking hand in hand down a path as a Christmas gift in 2006. Perfect, since we had two boys. It still remains one of my most favorite gifts. The problem is, I found out I was pregnant with our third son in January 2007 (three weeks after I received the painting!!)...so now I need one with 3 boys!

I wish I could just add a third boy in the middle! :(

6. The exterior of our house is in DESPERATE need of painting!

7. Continue to revamp our landscaping and flower beds and have our playset installed!

8. New floors!!! Most of our carpet in the house is original and although great quality, it's 20 years old and gray!! The living room and master bedroom carpet were replaced about 5 years ago, but with a lesser quality and they have tons of stains!

That should get me started!

Where to Begin??

I have a twenty year old house that we have lived in about a year and a half. Some updates have been done, but LOTS more to go!!! I'm starting this blog because I have some GREAT ideas, don't want to spend a lot of money and I'm a DIYer at heart! Hopefully this will be a fun journey we will all enjoy!
